**The Role**
The Strategic Communication Branch has multi-disciplinary communication teams embedded in every Group and Service across the Department. They provide end-to-end communication support to their Group or Service - from strategic planning through to execution, reactive and proactive media engagement, content development, social media and brand management. Media and Communications Managers contribute to the delivery of Ministerial, whole-of-government and Defence objectives. They are a source of trusted strategic communication advice and valued partners in achieving communication objectives for the Department.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Providing high-level, strategic communication advice to senior leaders, including senior military officers and senior executive service officers.
- Leading and supporting a small team.
- Developing communication strategies and associated media products, including talking points, media releases, social media content, fact sheets etc.
- Anticipating and responding to media enquiries, developing timely holding statements and talking points in response to incidents.
- Identifying communication risks and opportunities to maintain and promote Defence’s reputation and interests in line with communication priorities.
- Leading and collaborating on organisation-wide communication outputs.

Media and Communications Managers contribute to the delivery of Ministerial, whole-of-government and enterprise objectives. They are a source of trusted strategic communication advice and valued partners in achieving communication objectives for the Department.

Strategic Communication Branch plays a key role shaping the narrative and perception of Australia’s largest Commonwealth Department and the Australian Defence Force, building trust with the Australian community and advancing Australia’s national security interests. Our structure gives us visibility of the whole organisation, enabling us to make integral linkages between key stakeholders, develop strong professional networks and build our skills and leadership qualities. Collaboration is at the heart of our operations.

We work closely with other departments and policy officers across Defence to ensure a unified and coherent message.
