**Role and Responsibilities**
- Develop and review practice policies and procedures with the Principal/practice Manager
- Ensure staff comply with all aspects of practice policy.
- Adhering to SOPs and protocols and ensuring that “best medicine” standards are upheld.
- Implement practice and promotional activities as directed.
- Ensure staff activity, both veterinary & nursing, incorporates the use of practice policies and procedures.
- Ensure actions are taken to develop good teamwork and morale.
- Undertake and assist in the training of all staff (nursing & veterinarian) in conjunction with department co coordinators, in aspects of animal care, & practice procedures.
- Undertake the supervision of Residents and Interns, supporting them in their studies.
- Ensure all staff are not placed in undue danger by clients or patients.
- Ensures policies and procedures are maintained and trained throughout the practice.
- Ensure medicines are stored as required by legislation, and as directed.
- Ensure practice accounts are prepared and issued to clients as directed.
- Discuss case referral for surgical specialist treatment where the case dictates and where practice guidelines deem appropriate.
- Conduct hematological, blood and other specific laboratory tests as required and ensure results are recorded accurately and communicated to client, other veterinarians and veterinary nurses.
- Interpret diagnostic tests at the specialist level and create an appropriate management plan.
- Use most aspects of the computer system reliably and consistently - and to direct any problems with the system to the practice principal.
- Ensure (or supervise that) patient vital signs are monitored and recorded, whilst undergoing pre-medication, anaesthesia, procedure and recovery_. _
- Communicate and record post-procedure patient plan in line with _policy and procedure. _
- Perform all procedures with thoroughness and diligence - seeking assistance where required
- Ensures practice hygiene is undertaken in line with policy and procedures.
- Ensures compliance by all staff of occupational health and safety legislation and practice policy.
- Handling animals in a caring but safe manner - muzzling or sedating as required.
- Ensures emergency policy is adhered to in cases of accident and emergency.
- Support the other veterinarian(s) and veterinary nurses by communicating patient and client details when necessary and recording treatments administered and required.

**About You**
- Minimum 4 2 years experience in a busy general practice.
- Relevant Veterinarian registration in QLD.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Be able to communicate effectively in extreme situations with empathy, and calmness.
- Ability to multitask under pressure.
- Problem solving skills and proactiveness.
- Attention to detail.
- Compassionate and empathetic person.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in a specialist clinic.
