About Miles State School

Miles State School is a P-6 State School, located in the vibrant rural township of Miles in the Darling Downs South West region. Miles is located at the junction of the Warrego and Leichardt Highways in the western Darling Downs, 300 km north-west of Brisbane.

Miles State School has a student population of approximately 200, is facilitated by nine classes, a special education program, and a staff of 32 teaching and ancillary professionals who provide a welcoming, supportive, safe and positive environment for our students to thrive in.

About the Role

At Miles State School, we are committed to maximising the educational outcomes for all in a supporting, warm and caring school environment.

As a Teacher Aide your primary role will have responsibility for but not limited to the following:
provide supervision of small groups of students who will undertake specific learning activities provided by Teaching Staff, when the teacher is not in the room but is available to be called upon if needed;
preparation and serving of healthy snacks to students at Homework Club;
assisting students with reading and Homework Sheets, provided by Classroom Teachers;
as needed jobs in the School Library - cleaning books and assisting with putting books away.

Temporary backfilling roles would include
- Conducting reading groups, maths groups, art activities, and sports activities, including the gathering of applicable resources, in cooperation with teachers.
Supervision of students on the playground and during sporting activities in partnership with a teacher.
Assisting students with special needs, this may extend to moving disabled pupils, assisting with positioning, assisting with meals, toileting and dressing of pupils unable to care for themselves.
Maintaining anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing students' development.
Displaying respect and empathy for students with high level needs and confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitively to students and their families.
Management of teaching/learning resources, book hire schemes, loans and retrievals.
Providing support to teachers in behaviour management programs, learning support programs and to students requiring specific therapy programs, working with students on a regular basis where teachers/specialists are available only at intervals for reporting and review.
