**About the team**:
The Chemical and Biological Metrology Branch provides measurement standards such as certified reference materials. These include pure chemicals, gas standards, matrix materials and DNA standards. The branch also co-ordinates proficiency testing programs to assist laboratories assess their ongoing quality and performance. The branch houses three of Australia’s national testing laboratories for anti-doping, forensic drugs and ultra-trace analysis. The branch delivers services across all of these fields and carries out research and development to enhance our capabilities in line with national and international requirements.

The Executive Officer provides support to the General Manager, the Branch Management team and other Branch staff, supporting broader NMI initiatives as required.

You will:

- Have a sound understanding of Commonwealth procurement processes, with demonstrated experience in facilitating and advising on procurement activities
- Have a sound understanding of Commonwealth recruitment processes, with demonstrated experience in co-ordinating a range of recruitment activities for APS and contract roles
- Be highly motivated and organised with demonstrated project management skills and an understanding of change management approaches
- Be able to manage competing priorities in a professional, responsive and reliable manner
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build and sustain positive working relationships
- Have personal drive, sound judgement, discretion, integrity, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

**What you will do**:
In this role you will:

- Provide advice on and facilitate procurement assignments for Branch managers and staff in line with Government Procurement Guidelines, including:

- procurement of capital items
- the use of panel providers for service provision
- ensuring effective documentation and record keeping
- Co-ordinate recruitment processes, including contractor panel hiring, student placements and the on-boarding of new staff.
- Project manage the development and implementation of people related plans, such as:

- branch CENSUS action plans
- learning and development and staff wellbeing plans
- aspects of the NMI Strategic Workforce Plan
- Maintain excellent linkages across NMI and across the Department, particularly in finance and people and planning.
- Maintain and review branch governance and compliance activities, including asset management planning and business continuity planning.
- Maintain and update systems and procedures to improve efficiency and service delivery.
- Provide coaching and technical advice to staff across the areas of the role.

**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

**Notes**:
A merit pool may be established and used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for 18 months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Gazette.
