**What you'll do**:
We are seeking a **Data and BI Technical Lead** to drive our workflows, data strategy, and business intelligence initiatives. This role is uniquely balanced—expect to spend approximately three days each week on hands-on technical work (such as developing data pipelines, working with SQL, Python, and creating visualisations) while the remaining days focus on refining our data strategy, optimising our workflows, and ensuring our BI initiatives align with strategic business goals. In this role, you will transform complex data into clear, actionable insights that support strategic decision-making and business success.
Your responsibilities include:

- Leading data and BI workstreams: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into data-driven solutions and enhance BI capabilities.
- Ensuring data quality: Establish and maintain processes that guarantee data reliability and consistency.
- Managing data security: Implement measures to safeguard data and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
- Analysing data: Identify trends and provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Technical contribution: Utilise SQL for complex data querying and reporting, harness Python for data processing and automation, and leverage the data services to build scalable, secure data solutions.
- Data visualisation: Develop interactive dashboards and visualisations using tools to effectively communicate insights and trends to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Supporting and training staff: Educate team members on data best practices and ensure adherence to established data policies.
**Requirements**:
What you’ll bring
- At least 5 years’ experience in data management, with a strong understanding of data governance, quality, and architecture.
- Technical proficiency in SQL and Python - essential for building data pipelines, performing analysis, and automating processes.
- Proven experience with database management systems, ETL processes, and data integration tools.
- Demonstrated ability to develop compelling data visualisations and dashboards that translate complex data into actionable business insights.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven experience in data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Clear communication skills, capable of explaining complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- A keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. Experience in leading teams and fostering collaboration in a data-focused environment.
If you are passionate about leveraging data and business intelligence to drive strategic business outcomes, we encourage you to apply.
**Benefits**
**Why Open?**:
Open is on a mission to provide the best insurance experiences, at the best price, for the world. Insurance is one of the world’s least digitally mature industries - for years it’s remained confusing, paper-based and heavily intermediated. We launched in 2016 to build a global, AI-powered platform that digitises the entire insurance process, making it transparent, less costly and more reliable.
It's an exciting time to join Open and be part of a tech scale-up. We provide our team with:
- Highly competitive compensation, including share options - we believe in paying people what they're worth and having everyone in our company share in our success
- High levels of autonomy and trust so you can do your best work
- Growth opportunities internally - as you grow, your role can too
- A flexible, hybrid working model that includes three days in the office each week, combined with the option to work remotely.
- We encourage freedom and responsibility, including the ability to work from anywhere
- Annual allowance for professional development - use it towards a gym membership, professional coaching, a conference. Whatever matters most to you
