**The Opportunity**:
The University of Newcastle is seeking to appoint a Professor to lead the growth and development of its ESSA accredited undergraduate and postgraduate Exercise and Sport Science and Exercise Physiology programs.
The EXSS program has established a strong research track record and has been successful in recruiting higher degree research students across a range of discipline areas. A range of complementary programs exist within the university, offering opportunity to build inter
- and multidisciplinary research capability. The Hunter and Central Coast regions also offer the successful applicant the opportunity to build interactions with industry partners across a range of environments (e.g. sport, clinical or exercise).
This is an exciting time for the Discipline of Exercise and Sports Science, as it transitions to a new location at the main campus of the university. This relocation will expand the sports ecosystem at Callaghan and establish new, fully equipped exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor learning, and performance and data analysis laboratories, as well as an exercise physiology clinic. These facilities will be co-located with the Forum, which includes world class health, fitness, sport, and recreation facilities including a high-performance gym, aquatic centre, and indoor/outdoor sporting spaces.
**About You**:
The successful applicant will lead and be responsible for managing the Exercise and Sports Science discipline and will be expected to mentor existing staff in teaching and research to create a vibrant learning environment for students.
The essential criteria (a full list of which are available in the Position Description) include:
- Completed a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing in Exercise Physiology or Exercise and Sport Science.
- Demonstrated record of quality and impactful publication or non-traditional research outputs in high-quality outlets with research expertise in one or more of the following fields of expertise: Exercise Physiology, Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sport and Exercise Nutrition, or Motor Control and Learning / Skill Acquisition.
- Evidence of international and national collaborations and/or partnerships and, where relevant, impact on policy, practice and/or commercialisation.
- Demonstrated capacity to generate quality research outcomes evidenced by a successful track record of external funding.
- Demonstrated ability to create and deliver innovative and engaging undergraduate and/ or postgraduate coursework in Exercise & Sport Science, and to align curriculum development to ESSA accreditation standards.
- Demonstrated strategic leadership in the planning and delivery of course and curriculum, including undertaking program convening and course coordination.

**Base Salary**:
$214,167 pa (Level E)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
This full-time continuing (permanent) position is located at the Callaghan Campus on Awabakal Land.
