The Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) is one of Australia's most prestigious Sports, Events and Property Development companies. As well as running elite horse racing at Caulfield, Ladbrokes Park (Sandown) and Mornington Racecourses, we own 14 pub venues under the Pegasus Leisure Group (PLG), an emerging collection of owned events such as The Peninsula Picnic and Whiskey, Wine and Fire and finally the MRC Foundation, our charitable arm.
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced **Health & Safety Manager** to join the team at MRC on **a full-time permanent basis. **Based at Caulfield Racecourse, this role will be responsible for the planning and implementation of MRC’s overall health and safety (H&S) strategies and initiatives.
The role will involve working event days across weekends and public holidays as required, as well as travel to Mornington, Sandown and PLG venues across metropolitan & regional Melbourne.
**What will my responsibilities include?**
- Ownership and management of the Club’s Health and Safety strategies including the development and implementation of the strategic plan (roadmap) for the H&S initiatives
- Continuous improvement and further development of the Club’s Safety Management System to ISO45001
- Research, analyse and environmentally scan for emerging issues and trends in safety and environmental management and recommend amendments or corrective action to MRC policy and procedures to ensure compliance
- Ensuring the ongoing management of the H&S function, including fulfilling the Event Safety Officer role on certain event days which include weekends and public holidays
- Manage MRC’s annual Health & Safety audit program of all racecourse and hotel venues
- Ensure the assessment & reporting of the H&S functions and associated systems are accurate and in line with MRC procedures
- Effectively manage relationships and communication with third-party service providers, government bodies, and professional organisations with regards to H&S and risk management
**What skills and experience excite us?**
- 8+ years of H&S Compliance experience
- Formal qualifications in H&S or other relevant fields (minimum Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety)
- Ability to manage and engage a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and audits (both internal and external) experience
- Ability to work autonomously, generate new work, and drive initiatives
- Racing, Gaming Venue or Event Management experience (desirable)
- ISO Management system experience (desirable)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Effective time management skills
- High level of accuracy/attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
