**About the Role**:
We are seeking a **Principal - Studies** to join our Directional Studies team at WAIO. Reporting to the Manager Directional Studies, this position will lead and support multidisciplinary teams to deliver strategic, complex studies that typically have an investment value of over US$100 million. Specifically, this role is responsible for developing and leading projects for BHP’s iron ore assets in Australia.

The commitment by you, and the teams that you lead, to “Think Big” will have a significant strategic impact that will shape our business and unlock material value from our low cost operations and long life resources. You will engage effectively and be supported by a range of relationships across the business including operations, marketing, industry analysis, geoscience, finance and projects.

In this role you will:

- Be responsible for strategic studies (from concept to prefeasibility level) contributing to BHP’s sustaining, improvement and growth project pipeline;
- Analyse and review functional input from technical and commercial functions, ensuring alignment with business objectives;
- Make key recommendations and decisions that are selected and optimised for value, high quality, robust and developed in accordance with BHP’s project systems;
- Coach and develop collaboration and cooperation in your teams to identify and deliver innovative value adding solutions;
- Ensure BHP’s values are at the forefront of each team member’s mind;
- Demonstrate strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously;
- Engage effectively with Executives, project stakeholders and decision making forums.

**About You**:
You will take pride in driving strategic options that enhance BHP’s value. Advanced problem framing and solving skills are essential. Success in this role will require strong communication and influencing skills, including an ability to produce high quality and concise written reports and presentations for delivery to senior executives. Clear articulation of your recommendations, supported by high quality analysis, will be essential.

In addition, we are ideally looking for the following:

- You will be degree qualified in engineering, science or commercial discipline;
- Further post graduate studies in finance, management (e.g MBA) and project management are advantageous but not mandatory;
- You have proven experience in effectively managing teams of professionals.
- You will have demonstrated technical and commercial acumen with advanced problem solving skills and strategic thinking, and be comfortable leading work that delivers upon our sustainability commitments.
- Resources sector, manufacturing and major project experience with exposure to strategy development, investment evaluation and business planning in a corporate environment is highly valued.

**Location**:
You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office and state of the art facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.
