**Who we are**
The Biosecurity Response and Reform Branch supports the biosecurity system through providing strategic leadership and coordination to enable continuous improvement. The branch does this through the development, implementation and management of biosecurity policy, programs and initiatives relating to preparedness and responsiveness to national biosecurity incidents, and established pest animals and weeds. The branch is also responsible for implementing aspects of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Biosecurity and conducts consultation and engagement activities to support the department's biosecurity objectives. The branch is an interconnection point within the department for biosecurity strategy and funding initiatives. It leads and coordinates key areas of work including budget processes, biosecurity reform programs and outcomes under the Commonwealth Biosecurity 2030 roadmap.
**The Jobs**
We are seeking experienced policy and program professionals to fill vacancies across the branch. You will research, interpret and develop advice on complex policy issues affecting the national biosecurity system for the Minister and Senior Executive. You will support a hybrid working team to deliver a range of services including drafting briefing papers and managing programs that have an agency wide impact. The successful applicant will enjoy collaborating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in a positive, respectful way.
You will operate under broad direction, exercising a considerable degree of independence and performing a leadership role within your team. Duties include:
- developing and managing well-researched policy and / program advice regarding biosecurity reform or response, including bringing together perspectives from across the department
- leading and managing hybrid teams through inclusive leadership and coaching/mentoring
- managing and delivering complex projects and policy while managing stakeholder sensitivities through active negotiation and conflict resolution.
**Please note** that a merit pool will be established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of up to 18 months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette. The merit pool may be used to fill future ongoing vacancies where the duties are of a similar nature.

- proven experience in policy or program design and development
- experience in regulation, policy, project program or coordination roles
- leadership experience with a coaching mind-set to motivate a team to achieve their goals.
