Details: The Agriculture, Biosecurity and Invasive Species policy team is seeking to fill an Assistant Director role within the section.

The Agriculture, Biosecurity and Invasive Species (ABIS) section develops and reviews ACT policies, strategies, plans and legislation that support agriculture, biosecurity and invasive species management in the ACT. The section is also home to the Chief Plant Protection Officer. As the custodians of the ACT’s biosecurity legislation, the Biosecurity Act 2023, ABIS oversees the operationalisation of the new legislation and updates underlying instruments to strengthen legislative foundations.

The section develops and coordinates whole-of-government policy advice for input to multiple national committees, including the Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) to ensure well-informed Territory engagement in intergovernmental committees and decision-making forums that align with ACT Government priorities.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

- Applicants must have knowledge and experience working on plant health, biosecurity or natural resource management policy.
- Tertiary qualifications in biological, agricultural, natural resource and/or environmental science/policy, or related disciplines are highly desirable but not essential.

Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

This position will be based in the ACT Government’s Dickson Office Block, which is designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT and flexible start and finish times.
