Head of Compliance Advisory

Sydney, Australia Bank of Queensland Full time

**About the Role**
Join BOQ Group’s Risk division as our **Head of Compliance Advisory**, providing 12-month maternity leave coverage in a pivotal leadership role. This is a hands-on position where you'll be expected to roll up your sleeves and get involved in the detail, guiding business units with timely, risk-based regulatory advice and fostering a strong compliance culture.

You’ll lead a high-performing team (3 direct reports across a division of approx. 8) across Business Support, Program Support, and Privacy functions, and represent Compliance Advisory in governance forums and strategic initiatives. Your work will support commercial outcomes while maintaining alignment with BOQ Group’s strategic objectives and regulatory obligations.

As the business continues its transformation journey, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence compliance practices in an evolving environment. You won’t be stepping into a mature, established rhythm—adaptability, curiosity, and a solutions-focused mindset are key.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Delivering expert compliance advice on regulatory obligations and emerging risks
- Overseeing compliance input into projects, regulatory change programs, and product development
- Driving continuous improvement through innovation, automation, and simplification
- Supporting annual Control Self-Assessments for Business and Retail Banking
- Coaching and quality assurance to ensure consistent, high-quality advice across the team
- Providing strong advisory support, asking the right questions, and helping the business navigate complexity without being overwhelmed by perfectionism

**About you**
You’re a strategic thinker and empathetic leader who thrives in dynamic regulatory environments. You bring deep expertise in Australian financial services regulation and a collaborative mindset that builds trust across teams.

We’re looking for someone who:

- Has worked in a similar role in the banking industry.
- Has experience in advising compliance and regulatory advice to Retail and Business Bank divisions.
- Has strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

Additionally, you are someone who can translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, commercially sound guidance. With experience in compliance across digital banking, fintech, or data-driven environments, you bring a sharp analytical mindset and a strong ability to solve problems. Your communication style is clear and impactful, allowing you to engage effectively across all levels of the organisation. You take pride in building inclusive, high-performing teams and fostering a culture of continuous improvement where innovation and collaboration thrive.
**About Us**
BOQ Group is a truly unique group of challenger brands with a purpose - to provide a genuine alternative to Australian financial services for customers and employees.

Our family of brands (Bank of Queensland (BOQ), ME Bank, Virgin Money Australia, BOQ Specialist), each come with their own defined customer audience and brand personality, but share one goal - to build social capital through banking. That’s creating trust with customers, exploring staff potential and believing that tiny gestures and big ideas can change the world for communities.

BOQ Group’s inclusive vision is to foster a workspace that values and leverages difference and creates new possibilities, a place where our people feel confident to bring their best selves to work every day. We embrace difference and believe that our workforce should reflect the customers and communities that we serve.

Since 2021, BOQ Group is recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA).

In 2023, we successfully implemented an innovative Reconciliation Plan, driving positive change and promoting inclusivity across BOQ Group.
**Our Benefits**
At BOQ Group, we are passionate about creating an exceptional work environment that nurtures both your professional and personal growth. Our comprehensive benefits package is designed to enhance your well-being, provide financial security, and foster a sense of community and inclusion.
