**The Role**
Program Leader Hypersonic Weapons (PL HW) will report to Chief of the newly formed Air & Space Program Division, and under broad guidance is responsible for leading an inter-disciplinary, multi-divisional and client-focused S&T program of work leveraging national and international partnerships in support of Defence Capability Programs. The Program Leader will have developed a reputation for excellence in a specific field of S&T, have extensive experience, awareness and knowledge across a broad range of science applied to Defence and have well developed skills in relevant aspects of Portfolio, Program and Project Management (P3M).

Program Leader Hypersonic Weapons (PL HW) will provide scientific leadership and program management to the DSTG Hypersonic Weapons, Innovation and Science & Technology (Innovation and S&T) Program. DSTG is currently undertaking hypersonic research and development in technologies associated with offensive and defensive systems, including the development and flight test of high speed weapon prototypes to inform future acquisitions. Research on hypersonic weapons related science and technology includes collaboration with academia, international partners, and increasingly with Australian Industry primes and small to medium enterprises, which aims to support the establishment of sovereign manufacturing capabilities in key hypersonic weapons technologies in Australia.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and strengthen the impact of Innovation and S&T on the hypersonic weapons programs and key dependencies across the Defence eco-system.

**About our Team**
The Air and Space Program is a newly formed division in DST Group and is responsible for the delivery of an Innovation and Science & Technology program across the Defence air and space domains. The team is responsible for understanding the highest priority S&T problems and challenges across the relevant Defence stakeholders and developing an integrated, balanced S&T program to address these challenges.

We are looking for people with strong science research experience, who understand the unique scientific, technical and engineering challenges associated with hypersonic weapons, and who has a proven track record in program leadership. The right person for this role will show the flexibility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the customers, and the agility to realign resourcing to meet that new demand.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with Defence Capability Program Sponsors, senior clients and stakeholders and build a sound understanding of the client priorities and requirements that DST Group can support.
- Ensure timely development and approval of S&T Program Plans and subordinate S&T Project Plans in collaboration with clients and appropriate Chiefs of Division, Research Leaders and line managers in relevant technology areas.
- Consult and collaborate with the appropriate Chiefs of Division, other Program Leaders, Research Leaders and line managers in relevant technology areas to ensure that the relevant DST Group tasks are integrated and that their outputs are aligned with the client’s program requirements.
- Develop systems and processes to ensure that all knowledge generated by DST Group of relevance to the Program is captured and retained.
- Exercise strong project and financial management skills to ensure agreed S&T projects and programs are delivered to customer expectations of cost, timeliness and outcomes.
- Ensure DST Group programs and projects are formally closed when their contribution to the Defence Capability Program is complete.
- Undertake other significant duties as required by the relevant Chief of Division.
