**Who we are**
Australia’s natural and cultural heritage is unique. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.
The Business Support Unit (BSU) within Major Projects Branch is a small team of professional staff supporting a significant program of capital investment projects. The BSU team work closely with Program Directors, Project Managers and Parks Australia finance staff.
**The Job**
You will use your experience in financial management, in a project or program management driven work environment to:
- deliver high quality financial reporting,
- oversee the accounts payable activities within the team including reviewing transactional journals and reconciliations, including undertaking financial data interrogation and analysis,
- support the Executive, project and finance staff to understand and deliver key financial operations and reporting products including month and year end close processes, financial and budgeting reports,
- be a key supporting resource in the development and implementation of financial procedures, including suggesting opportunities for process improvement and simplification,
- assist in building a positive and resilient team culture and an improved financial capability across the team, while demonstrating an awareness and personal commitment to the APS Values and Code of Conduct.
**What we are looking for**
**Knowledge and experience**
- Proven skills in delivering high quality financial reporting to support program & project management for a capital works program.
- Demonstrate capability in undertaking data integrity and accuracy analysis and investigation, including through implementing controls and reconciliations/checks and demonstrating strong attention to detail, adherence to Parks Australia policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate managing competing priorities and workload requirements of your role and for your team, to meet the objectives of the finance team and the broader branch business.
- Possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work successfully with a range of internal and external stakeholders and contribute constructively and positively in a small business support team.
- Demonstrating awareness and a personal commitment to the APS Values and Code of Conduct
**Skills and capabilities**
- Experience in financial management in a project or program management environment.
- Ability to understand organisation-wide financial frameworks and work inside a corporate FMIS (SAP is preferred).
- Experience in the processing and oversight of accounts payable activities.
- Experience in financial data interrogation, analysis and reporting.
- Lead finance staff in delivering key financial operations including month and year end close processes, financial reporting and budgeting.
- Capability to building a positive team culture.
- Demonstrate an awareness and personal commitment to the APS Values and Code of Conduct.
**Desirable Qualifications**
- Tertiary Accounting Qualification
**Eligibility and other requirements**
**Citizenship** - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
**Security Clearance** - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
