**About the role**

The Team Leader, Place Projects uses their exceptional project management, urban design and stakeholder engagement skills to design and deliver minor infrastructure and activation projects in community hubs, gathering spaces and township beautification projects, all of which aim to improve community wellbeing and attract visitors to the peninsula.

The incumbent will develop a detailed understanding of the unique character of the peninsula’s townships, what keeps our community happy and healthy and how this can be applied to the design and delivery of projects. An understanding of community wellbeing metrics, how they are applied and measured will enable the incumbent to demonstrate the impact of the works delivered. Working side-by-side with internal and external stakeholders is critical to ensure projects are created by and for the community and to ensure they contribute to the realisation of township and other MPS strategic plans.

The position will work across the peninsula with a particular focus on delivering elements of township plans in townships and economic hubs, community gathering places, major precincts (Briars and Police Point) and community gardens. Exploring opportunities to bring the broader community and community groups into the delivery of projects will be a critical element of this role, including through the development of volunteering opportunities.

Core responsibilities include:

- Design and deliver community hub / community gathering place and township beautification projects which support the realisation of township plans, Precinct Master Plans and Council and corporate plans
- Provide urban and landscape design advice to the Infrastructure Projects team in the detailed design and construction phase of capital works projects
- Assist in the development and delivery of township and other relevant strategic plans
- Deliver the annual MPS Outdoor Dining Project
- Oversee the community gardens portfolio, including Gardens for Wildlife and community gardens, with a view to improving wellbeing and amenity and aligning with the Climate Action Plan.
- Engage critical teams, including Arts & Culture, Natural Systems, Community Capital, Strategic and Infrastructure Planning and Infrastructure Projects to contribute to the planning and delivery of placemaking projects
- Contribute to the development of strategic priorities for community groups to ensure community capital and other budget bids are aligned with broader strategic goals
- Provide input into capital works projects to ensure delivery of great urban and landscape design outcomes for the community in line with adopted plans.
- Support the implementation of the Community Capital process by working with community groups to develop strategic priorities and during the early assessment and prioritisation phases of each project
- Develop and oversee the Shire’s Placemaking Strategy
- Exploring opportunities to engage the community in the delivery and maintenance of Place projects, including using volunteers, community and Friends groups
- Facilitate administration of Placemaking Grants
- In consultation with the Marketing and Communications teams identify avenues to highlight the work undertaken and seek community feedback and ideas to inform future work.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of community needs including unique personality of each township
- With the Manager, Community Facilities and Precincts, develop strategic and annual business plans
- Develop budget bids, in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, to support the delivery of annual business plans

**Skills, experience, and other requirements**
- Experience and/or qualifications in project management, social, urban or landscape design and / or planning or another relevant field
- Demonstrated experience developing landscape or township plans using placemaking principles
- Demonstrated experience engaging community and stakeholders to understand customer needs, throughout a project life-cycle.
