**About the Organisation**

The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of
Victorian Aboriginal communities. The organisation has expanded steadily over past 40 years to provide a
comprehensive range of medical, dental, and social services for our community.

As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the
community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting
research into the ongoing needs of the community.

**About the Opportunity**

Reporting to the Women’s and Children’s Team Leader, the role of the Balert Gerrbik - AHW is to implement
culturally appropriate services to children and their families seen outside of the VAHS services.

**Key Selection Criteria**

To be considered for this role you must have the following.
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health Work or Childhood development or the capacity to undertake

training
- Ability to undertake training as a breast-feeding consultant
- Demonstrated understanding of children’s health and development and appreciation of the needs and

concerns of children and their families.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with young

children, their parents, carers and the Aboriginal Community
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating group activities in child development and parenting
- Good computer and written communication skills.
- The demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi skilled team
- An active commitment to Health education and health Promotions
- Fully approved Covid 19 Vaccinations (including booster)
