**About the opportunity**
The Neuroscience Research Fellow will work within the Glial Research Team and use unique transgenic mouse lines and human stem cell resources to determine how multiple sclerosis-associated gene variants contribute to neuropathology and disease progression in high-risk families. The rare gene variants being studied are situated within the protein coding region of genes and are predicted to affect cells within the central nervous system. The Neurophysiology Research Fellow will conduct in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro studies to determine how each variant influences neuron function. In carrying out this research, the Fellow will work collaboratively with neurobiology, computational genetics, immunology, and clinical neurology collaborators.
**What you’ll do**:
- Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
- Undertake high-quality neuroscience research, including planning, conducting, recording, and analysing laboratory studies, and presenting your scientific data in oral and written formats.
- Secure external competitive and other funding, publish research findings and contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective research links inside the University, nationally and internationally.
- Comply with the UTAS Framework for Responsible Conduct of Research, The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, the Privacy Act, and relevant research ethics and sponsor requirements.
**What we’re looking for**:
- A PhD in Neuroscience or a related discipline is essential.
- A strong record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved international recognition and made worthwhile contributions to the field of Neuroscience, demonstrated by a record of quality publications, presentations at conferences and potentially success in research funding schemes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- A strong academic track record (relative to opportunity), including primary research publications in a relevant laboratory-based medical research discipline (recent graduates should provide evidence of pending publications).
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the supervision of staff and students relative to career stage and opportunity.
**Salary details**
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A or B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $115,450 - $150,759 comprising base salary within the range of $98,675 to $128,854,049 plus 17% superannuation.
