**The Role**
Sustainment function of the Defence APS Engineering and Technology Job Family and will be responsible for assisting in coordinating the development of sustainment strategies and plans, enabling their delivery and reporting on the requirements and expectations of sustainment of submarine systems. This includes the delivery of required functional performance, supportability and obsolescence, reliability and maintenance requirements as they relate to some or all (depending on your training/experience) of:

- Air systems (high and low pressure)
- Water systems (including potable, sea and fresh water, trim, weight compensation and ballast)
- Bilge and waste systems
- Ventilation systems
- Refrigeration systems
- Hydraulic and weapons discharge/handling systems
- Power generation, conversion, distribution and storage systems (including diesel engines and lead-acid batteries)
- Fuel and lube oil systems
- Gas detection, firefighting, alarm and control and monitoring systems

There are five System Asset Managers within the Platform Systems Sustainment Section: Auxiliaries, Control and Refrigeration, Power Conversion and Distribution, Weapons Discharge and Hydraulics and Powertrain. You will be accountable under the direction of a System Asset Manager to undertake activities that ensure the sustainment of Defence assets, working within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence mission and business objectives. You will undertake objective, systematic analysis and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence, providing detailed technical, professional, and procedural advice in relation to complex sustainment activities.

Specific roles will include:

- Assisting in the monitoring and provision of advice regarding the transition of Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) Acquisition Projects to Sustainment
- Reviewing maintenance and document amendment and configuration change proposal
- Attending Enterprise meetings for the for various Working Groups
- Providing technical advice for defect root cause analyses and problem reports
- Assisting the System Asset Manager in their role as Commonwealth point of contact for concessions, design reviews, minor projects and design reviews

The Collins Submarine Program within Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group is responsible for the maintenance and programmed upgrade of Australia’s Collins Class submarines. The Program works in partnership with the Royal Australian Navy and Industry to deliver the strategic submarine capability to the nation.

Asset Management is the consolidated set of activities by an integrated team to ensure that the physical assets of Navy safely and effectively deliver their intended level of performance or, in practical terms, deliver submarines with the required utility at or above international benchmark levels of availability and efficiency. In doing so, the Navy’s requirement for the submarine capability will be met.
