Policy/Project Officers in the Veteran and Family Policy Division are responsible for developing and implementing new policy proposals and challenging pre-existing policies to improve the veteran experience. These roles are instrumental in driving change across DVA. Successful applicants will be passionate about improving services for veterans, and will need to have strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to support productive working relationships, and build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Successful applicants will need to work as a team player delivering to short timeframes, during peak periods.

**Duties**

Broadly, applicants should have the skills and abilities required to:

- Work as part of a cohesive team, with limited direction, to deliver quality products that require little revision before finalisation
- Develop expertise in a particular policy area, research and contribute to writing policy papers, reports and submissions which consider options, analyse information, and assess risk and service impacts;
- Liaise effectively with internal and external networks within the Department and with stakeholders, Government departments and others; and
- For some roles, undertake and review policy costings.

**Notes**

A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions (ongoing and non-ongoing) within the next 18 months.
