**Full-time Lecturer**
**Christianity and Culture Lecturer / Academic Dean**
We are searching for an experienced and dedicated Academic to join our unique team at Trinity College Queensland as a Lecturer and Academic Dean.
Reporting through to the Director of Education for Ministry (Principal of Trinity College Queensland), you will work with a small, specialised team to deliver Systematic Theology, Philosophy and Ethics and fulfil the administrative responsibilities of Academic Dean.
Trinity College Queensland is the denominational college for the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod. Inaugurated in 1977. The College’s higher education programs have been accredited by the Australian College of Theology since 2020. The college aspires to be a global leader in providing education for Christian life and ministry as an international and ecumenical community of learners, known for growing and revitalising churches, agencies and schools. This vision is supported by a commitment to utilising best practice and proven pedagogical methods to offer units, resources and events that (trans)form the whole person.
**Key Responsibilities of the role**:
- Demonstrate an understanding of and affirm The Basis of Union, promoting the values and beliefs articulated in it;
**EDUCATION (Lecturer in Christianity & Culture)**
**1. Teaching**
- Contribute to the College’s unaccredited (e.g. lay education), undergraduate, and post-graduate programs by offering lectures in the areas of systematic theology, philosophy and ethics (these may be expanded or adapted in accordance with the lecturer’s areas of expertise and research interests); it is expected that the person in this position will teach approximately 2-4 units per calendar year.
- Develop unit and course content, including multimedia content (videos/podcasts), that meets the requirements of the College’s accrediting body (ACT) and informs students about how the fields of theology and philosophy relate to the life of faith and Christian mission;
**2. Research**
- Remain research active (as per the guidelines of our higher education provider) in systematic theological studies and engage in professional development through participation in conferences/professional associations, and through academic writing (peer-reviews, books, articles);
**3. Curriculum Development**
- In consultation with the Principal, develop and sustain the college’s distinct approach to teaching & learning so that practices are consistent across all courses and units (e.g. Inquiry-Based Learning; flipped classroom; Moodle setup; zoom integration; etc).
- Co-ordinating professional development sessions for all faculty to ensure ongoing awareness of changes and critical issues in education (e.g. AI detection/Turnitin; criteria for assessing digital media and art-based assessment tasks as well as traditional word-based assignments).
**4. Advising & Mentoring**
- Actively advise the Library Manager on purchases in the areas of systematic theology, philosophy and ethics;
- Offer an aspirational model of theological scholarship that promotes Trinity College Queensland within the Church and the wider community;
- Practice an intentionally formational approach to teaching, and preach occasionally in College community contexts; provide first point of academic and pastoral contact for students in your classes.
**ADMINISTRATION (Academic Dean)**
**1. Administrative Duties**
- Ensure that Trinity College Queensland remains compliant with the policies of our higher education provider with regard to assessment tasks, moderation and teaching practices. Participate in committees of the ACT, as per the direction of the Principal.
- Undertake other admin’ duties as and when directed by the Principal/ Director of Education for Ministry that fall within the scope of the role and the capabilities of the incumbent.
- Conduct performance reviews for other teaching faculty that monitors:
(a) student feedback from units taught;
(b) goals and aspirations for professional/career development;
(c) areas for improvement in teaching practice;
(d) responding to feedback from colleagues about any work-related stress.
**2. Collaboration & Networking**
- Liaise with other agencies of the Queensland Synod office, such as Presbyteries, the BCF (Board for Christian Formation), and the MET (Mission Engagement Team) in the delivery of courses and events that aim to equip the whole church.
**3. Community Engagement**
- Co-ordinate public theology events and conferences that are relevant and engaging for the whole church by inviting speakers and panels to be hosted by Trinity College (e.g. Trinity Unplugged). A related potential area for development is to develop a Centre for Public Theology that trains ministers and students to foster effective conversational engagement between church and society.
