As Australia's largest bank, CBA is committed to supporting Australia's transition to net zero emissions. Our customers are at the centre of everything we do. We have over 48,000 employees across our retail, business and institutional banking, superannuation, investment and broking businesses, as well as a range of interests around the world. As such, we offer a broad range of opportunities for our employees to continue to build on their skills and develop their careers in new and interesting directions.
This role is part of the Environmental Strategy function, a small but highly capable team within CBA's Environmental & Social function.
**See yourself in our Team**
Seeing the long-term strategic value of climate analytics capabilities, CBA's Environmental Strategy team is responsible for analysing the potential impact of physical and transition climate risks to the Group, and partner across the Group to deliver decision-useful insights that inform strategy and risk management.
This function sits within the Group's Environmental & Social team who is focused building a brighter future for CBA - embedding environmental and social matters into our strategy and focusing on sustainable practices, policies and outcomes.
**In this role you will**
As a Manager you will work closely with the rest of the Group's Environmental Strategy team, Business Units and Risk Management teams to analyse opportunities and risks faced by CBA due climate change. The analysis will inform the Group's decision-making and strategy to deliver on its climate commitments while continuing to create value for shareholders, and to navigate the risks posed by climate change.
**Other duties will include**:
- Defining Climate Analytics priorities: work with colleagues across Climate Strategy, Business Units and Risk Management to prioritise climate analyses to understand physical and transition risks
- Conducting Climate Analytics: Drawing on multiple analytical techniques to translate global climate scenarios into potential impacts to the Group, and drawing out implications. Examples include
- International scenarios: lead the Group's analysis of macroeconomic and weather scenarios published by different international bodies (IPCC, IEA, NGFS) to provide insights on their implications for the Australian economy and CBA
- Acute physical risk: Analyse the risks to physical assets (e.g., mortgages) arising from an increased frequency and/or severity of extreme weather events
- Chronic physical risk: Analyses the impact of long-term changes in weather patterns on economic activity (e.g., agricultural productivity)
- Partner with stakeholders across the Group to translate analysis into insights, informing decision-making
- Produce insights to be included in CBA's public climate disclosures in line with TCFD recommendations
- Collaborate with and support other teams delivering the Group's environmental strategy (e.g., Financed Emissions / sector-level targets, Sustainable Finance)
**We're interested in hearing from people who have**
- Strong interest in and knowledge of global climate scenarios, methodologies and strategies
- Exceptional quantitative analysis and coding skills
- Experience in risk quantification in the insurance or banking industry, such as estimating the impact of extreme weather to real estate assets and calculating expected credit losses to lending portfolios under different economic scenarios
- Ability to extract key business and risk insights from complex data analysis and communicate them clearly and concisely to senior management
- Exceptional conceptual and analytical skills, evident business acumen and excellent verbal and written communication capability with an ability to manage multiple stakeholders with differing views
- An understanding of the concepts of credit risks and credit risk modelling
- Undergraduate qualifications in either Mathematics, Physics, Meteorology, Economics, Finance or other related field and/or relevant Graduate Diploma, Masters Qualification, PhD
