The Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education (Melbourne CSHE) is a leading University, national and international Centre for professional development and executive education, research and research training, and engagement in the field of higher education.
**About the Role**
The successful appointee will coordinate and lead a suite of activities to further develop Academic Advising across the University. They will liaise with Faculties, Student and Scholarly Services and the Office of the Provost to lead and collaborate in activities that enhance Academic Advising for over 18,000 participating undergraduate students and 1,200 academic staff each year. They will be expected to lead and contribute to the design, development and teaching of advising-focused professional development programs for academic staff of the University, as well as resources for students to more fully engage with Academic Advising. In addition, they will contribute to the evaluation of the program, in order to identify the extent to which the objectives of the program are met and opportunities for program enhancement. The appointee will be expected to provide expert, evidence-based advice to the University community, including senior executives.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing collaborative leadership across the University to guide and develop Academic Advising resources for academics and students, including curriculum and professional development frameworks for academic advisers, and resources to enhance student preparedness and engagement with their advisers.
- Delivering expert leadership and advice to the University community on effective practices for academic advising and ways to grow the culture of advising at the University.
- Demonstrating commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity in the conduct and leadership of academic work.
- Establishing and maintaining networks across the University and coordinate a University-wide Academic Advising Network to share best practice and support professional development activities.
**About You**
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity in the conduct and leadership of academic work. You will have a demonstrated capacity to develop engaging resources for undergraduate students. You will also show evidence of high-level leadership and management skills, and the ability to lead, and work collaboratively in teams with diverse academic and professional staff.
You will also have:
- A PhD or equivalent research doctorate in a field relevant to higher education.
- A proven record of success in teaching at the university level, including the ability to make significant contributions to the leadership, design and coordination of innovative and distinguished programs, including professional development.
- Demonstrated capacity to initiate and lead large-scale Academic Advising and/or professional development activities for staff.
- An understanding of international and national trends in Academic Advising.
- To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check._
