**About the role**
In this role, you will be responsible for continuing to build the strategic framework for attraction of Major Events to the City of Greater Geelong (the City) to deliver an annual calendar of events that position Geelong as an international standard major events destination.
Key responsibilities include:
- Foster relationships with State Government and a diverse range of stakeholders to secure a calendar of major and international standard events to the City.
- Represent the City in bid processes for major events including coordination of delegations or networking opportunities to position Geelong as a significant major event host destination.
- Undertake the role of Executive Officer to the Geelong Major Events (GME) Committee and coordinate the development and implementation of a GME strategic plan.
- Oversee the supervision of budgets, projects, contracts, people, and assets relevant to the role including the GME committee.
- Provide timely advice and assistance to the GME committee in the procurement of events, utilising experience, and industry relationships to maximise procurement opportunities.
**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will have qualifications in business, marketing, event management and extensive experience in the industry attraction including the attraction of major events.
Essential Experience:
- Demonstrated skills and experience in stakeholder management and advocacy including the ability to develop positive and productive relationships with customers, government agencies, contractor’s key event organisers, community groups and other stakeholders.
- Strong strategic skills including the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of strategic documents in regards to attraction of major events.
- Excellent written and personal communication skills accompanied by the ability to represent the City of Greater Geelong at any level.
- Proven experience in successfully developing, negotiating and managing contracts and/or service agreements as well as the preparation of major event bids.
- Experience in the delivery of marketing and promotional campaigns that seek to establish reputation at a national and international standard.
