**About the Role**

As a Student Counsellor at SAE, you will be at the forefront of delivering high-quality counselling services, empowering students to achieve their personal and academic goals. This part-time position, based in Brisbane, offers autonomy in task prioritization and a dynamic environment where you can balance outreach programs with individual counselling services. The role contributes to a range of support and development activities aimed at strengthening the SAE community and provides consultation to campus staff. The Student Counsello_r_ works individually, under the clinical supervision of the National Manager of Counselling and Wellbeing.

**Responsibilities and Duties**:

- Conduct in-person, telephone, or video counselling sessions
- Address urgent presentations, individual and group counselling
- Facilitate thorough assessments and external referrals when needed
- Advocate for student needs by collaborating with staff
- Maintain precise records and contribute to strategic initiatives
- Offer consultation and training sessions to staff for mental health literacy
- Promote an inclusive campus culture
- Contribute to the effective delivery of support services within a remote and local team

**The person we seek will ideally have the following**:
Essential:

- A relevant tertiary qualification e.g. Social Work, Psychology or Counselling, and current membership of the appropriate professional association
- Demonstrated proficiency and efficacy in counselling clients from diverse social and cultural backgrounds with a broad range of issues, including complex and high-risk presentations.
- Proven high level of competence in responding to urgent mental health presentations, triage, case management and liaison/advice regarding appropriate mental health first aid.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative, ethical and practice requirements e.g. confidentiality, privacy, anti-discrimination, mandatory reporting.
- Demonstrated capacity to facilitate appropriate and effective referrals as needed.
- Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate groups and/or training and development workshops, particularly with an outreach focus.
- Track record in working both autonomously and effectively as a member of a team, with high levels of accountability.
- Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Desirable:

- Experience providing counselling in a higher education setting
- Qualifications and experience in providing clinical supervision to counselling, psychology or social work students
