**Who we are**
The Environment Compliance Branch (ECB) provides a centralised compliance and enforcement capability for the department’s environmental legislation. We work with business, industry, government and the community to understand and improve compliance with national environmental law. The branch conducts civil and criminal investigations, collects and analyses environmental intelligence, monitors compliance with environmental approvals, and engages with the community we regulate.

**The Job**
There are multiple positions available across multiple sections of the ECB. The sections include:
**The Triage and Operations Coordination Section**:
Triage and Operations Coordination is the first point of entry for receiving all compliance allegations under a range of Commonwealth environmental legislation. The section assesses all allegations to determine the most appropriate course of action, including referral to other ECB sections for compliance and enforcement response. The section also conducts environmental history checks required for decision making under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, (EPBC Act) and other environmental legislation. The section provides an executive support function to the Operations Coordination Committee, the peak decision-making committee responsible for allocating resources of ECB.

**Environment Intelligence Environment Intelligence Section**:
Environment Intelligence Environment Intelligence Section (EIS) undertakes proactive intelligence activities to discover, understand and respond to current and emerging matters of organised environmental crime and serious non-compliance. This includes the ability to connect the Department to intelligence through information sharing and collaboration with domestic and international intelligence and law enforcement partners. EIS also provide strategic analysis and advice on current and emerging environment compliance threats to assist decision making, prioritisation and intervention strategies.

**International Wildlife Trade Compliance**:
International Wildlife Trade Compliance (IWTC) section undertakes the collection and administrative decision making for wildlife seizures under environmental laws and provides reporting under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The section works closely with partner agencies at the border, especially Australian Border Force (ABF), who are authorised under the EPBC Act to seize and act on behalf of DCCEEW. WTC have responsibility for the training of ABF new-recruits and provide refresher training to all ABF Officers.

- Experience in reforming business processes to deliver outcomes efficiently and aligning with legislation.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working closely and collaboratively with senior executive and leadership, providing advice and guidance on a range of issues, including divisional priorities, governance arrangements, staffing and business planning.
- Experience in preparing, coordinating, contributing to and quality assuring a range of written material, including briefs, agenda papers, reports, talking points, presentations, background briefings and ministerial correspondence.

- Highly developed written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences, including the senior executive.
