General Manager Sydney Quantum Academy

**About the opportunity**

Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA) is a unique partnership between the University of Sydney, UNSW, UTS, and Macquarie University, supported by the NSW Government. Established in 2020, SQA brings together Sydney’s collective quantum expertise to build Australia’s quantum economy and position New South Wales as a global leader in quantum research, talent development, and innovation. Now entering its second phase of funding, SQA 2.0 is focused on building a diverse, future-ready workforce equipped with the skills needed to support the development and commercialisation of quantum technologies.

As General Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to implement SQA’s strategy, working closely with the Academic Director, Executive Board, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Enterprise. You will manage the Academy’s operations, budgets, KPIs, and governance while building strong partnerships across universities and stakeholders. This is a leadership role with broad influence and responsibility to support the growth of quantum research and industry impact.

**Your key responsibilities will be to**:

- work closely with the Academic Director, SQA Executive Board, and PVCRE to implement SQA’s strategic plans
- manage policies, governance, and control systems ensuring compliance with university procedures
- oversee financial management, budgeting, KPI tracking, and reporting as per funding agreements
- develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across the quantum ecosystem
- lead and manage a team of operations staff, including performance management and professional development
- identify opportunities for process improvements and best practice adoption
- ensure risk management and workplace health and safety compliance

**About you**
- postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field or equivalent experience
- demonstrated operational management experience including budget oversight
- proven skills in staff supervision, mentoring, and performance management
- experience establishing and maintaining administrative and governance procedures
- strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- excellent organisational and communication skills
- a background or strong interest in quantum physics or related areas is highly desirable
