Are you a skilled data modelling specialist with a background in quantitative biodiversity assessments? We are currently seeking a motivated Biodiversity Modeller or Quantitative Ecologist to join us in an exciting ongoing position

As a Biodiversity Modeller/Spatial Ecologist, you will join our dynamic ‘Quantitative Biodiversity Assessment’ Team, whose research ensures that high quality biodiversity information is available to support policy, planning and management decisions. The team are world-leaders in developing modelling and assessment techniques to better quantify recent biodiversity change, identify current priorities for conservation, as well as forecast the likely biodiversity implications of alternative future changes in land use and climate. They undertake assessments from local to regional, national and global scales, working closely with government, industry and NGO partners. The team has global impact, influencing the development of nature-focussed international initiatives, and developing novel biodiversity indicators that are endorsed and used around the world.

Joining the team in this crucial multi-faceted role, you will develop and implement new & existing approaches to biodiversity modelling and assessment, and utilise your expertise to contribute to a range of projects that develop research solutions and decision-making capability based on a core understanding of ecological processes and patterns.

**Your duties will include**:

- Planning, designing and implementing quantitative biodiversity assessments that meet project objectives and user needs.
- Investigating alternative solutions to new biodiversity modelling and assessment challenges, including harnessing emerging techniques and technologies.
- Writing, using and managing coded workflows, including across different languages (e.g. R, python, C++), and processing environments (desktop, cloud, HPC).
- Engaging effectively and collaboratively with team members and external partners, and managing research activities across multiple projects.
- Communicating research results to clients and the scientific community in ecologically meaningful ways, as well as leading and significantly contributing to scientific papers and reports.

**Salary**: AU$121K - AU$142K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:

- A PhD in a relevant discipline area, such as spatial biodiversity modelling or quantitative spatial ecology.
- Demonstrated experience in biodiversity modelling or quantitative spatial ecology, including knowledge & expertise in core ecological disciplines, such as macroecology, biogeography, ecophysiology and conservation biology.
- Proven advanced statistical modelling or data analytics skills, and programming capabilities in one or more languages relevant to spatial modelling and analysis (e.g. Python, R, C++).
- Demonstrated science innovation and creativity, including the ability and willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
- Experience managing large data analytics workflows using a range of computing environments, such as high-performance compute clusters, and/or cloud computing.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and leading projects or project components, including effective resource management, delivery of project outputs, and working with multi-disciplinary regionally dispersed research teams.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills, including a strong publication record.
