Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The Faculty of Business and Law, School of
Accountancy at QUT seeks to appoint a
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in International
position will be expected to be a proactive and
curious early career researcher with a growing
track record and expertise in qualitative,
quantitative or mixed methods studies. We

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be an
integral part of a research team on a four-year
project investigating international taxation in
the digital age. The Research Fellow will help
design a blueprint to address the erosion of the
tax base created by profit shifting by
multinational entities operating in Australia
taking into account the tax challenges of the
digitisation of the economy. New knowledge of
international profit making and its impact on the
Australian tax base will be studied to propel the
team in their investigations to the forefront of
research in unitary taxation, also known as
formulary apportionment, as a superior model
for allocating profits of multinational entities.
The team will extend theoretical perspectives
on taxing multinational entities in the location of
value creation by assessing the factors that
drive profits thereby establishing a framework
The identification of geo-political impediments
to the introduction of formula apportionment
and identifying the extent to which international
co-ordination is necessary for the
implementation of formula apportionment, the
pathways to bring this about and whether
regional groups can make progress in this field
on a preliminary basis in the same way as the
EU's development of the CCCTB proposal will
also be considered.

This position reports to the Professor for
supervision, workload management and for
Performance Planning and Review (PPR).

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Carry out innovative, impactful,

international tax research as directed by
the project lead.
- Assist with leadership of the international

tax research team.
- Prepare research publications suitable for

publication in high quality journals.
- Work collaboratively with research staff

and external stakeholders.
- Actively participate in high-performing

multidisciplinary teams and support the
development of the research culture of the
Faculty and School and assist with the
supervision of research students and
support staff.
- Participate and contribute to ethical, high

quality and innovative research through
activities such as quality publications as
journals, or conference presentations.
- Implementing and administering University

policy within the Faculty with respect to
equitable access to education and
workplace health and safety.
- To ensure job flexibility the successful
appointee may be required to:

- perform any other duties as nominated by

the University consistent with the relevant
classification descriptors detailed in the
Enterprise Agreement. Staff undertaking
any new duties will receive training.
- participate in job rotation or multiskilling in

consultation with their supervisor.
- work across campuses.

To be appointed as a Postdoctoral Research
Fellow the successful applicant must meet the
position classification standards outlined in
the QUT Enterprise Agreement (Academic
Staff).

**Type of appointment**

This appointment will be offered on a fixed
- term, full-time basis for four years. Flexible
working arrangements including part-time and
job-sharing will be considered.

Selection Criteria
1. Completion of a doctoral qualification

(or under examination/near submission
for external examination) in the broad
field of taxation

2. Expertise in qualitative, quantitative or
mixed methods studies.

3. Track record of publication of research
findings in peer-reviewed journals and
conferences.

4. Well-developed communication and
interpersonal skills and demonstrated
ability to work collaboratively with
researchers from a multidisciplinary
background.

5. Demonstrated ability to collaborate
with end-users and other stakeholders
in the field of taxation. For example,
federal governments, nongovernmental
organisations, industry bodies and the
profession.

6. Research leadership skills, including
support of research assistants and
postgraduate student supervision.

**Remuneration and Benefits**

The classification for this position is Academic
Level B (LEVB) which has an annual

remuneration range of $AUD119,829 to
$AUD142,312 pa. Which is inclusive of an
annual salary range of $AUD101,257 to
$120,255 pa, 17% superannuation and leave
loading.
