Position Overview:
Key Responsibilities:

- Procurement Planning:

- Develop and implement buying strategies for fresh flowers (local and imported), foliage, and floral accessories based on sales trends, customer demand, and seasonal availability.
- Supplier Relationship Management:
Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with growers, flower markets, import agents, and suppliers to ensure reliable supply, competitive pricing, and quality standards.
- Inventory Control:
Monitor stock levels to maintain optimum inventory, avoid overstocking or stock outs, and ensure freshness of perishable goods.Conduct market research to forecast trends in floral design, colour palettes, and consumer preferences, and source products accordingly.Inspect incoming floral shipments for quality, freshness, and consistency; reject or return unsuitable products as necessary.Maintain accurate records of procurement costs, calculate margins, and ensure profitability across product lines.Schedule and coordinate shipments (local and international), including compliance with quarantine and biosecurity regulations for imported goods.Collaborate with internal departments to align purchases with promotional activities, seasonal events (e.g., Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day), and customer orders.Implement procurement practices that minimise waste and ensure environmental responsibility.

Essential Skills and Experience:

- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Retail Buyer or Procurement Officer, ideally in the floristry, horticulture, or perishable goods sector.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local and international floral markets and supply chains.
- Ability to forecast demand, manage budgets, and analyse market trends.
- Familiarity with inventory systems, procurement software, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Understanding of quarantine and biosecurity regulations for floral imports.
- Time management skills and the ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

- Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Procurement, Floriculture, or a related field (desirable).
- Vocational training or extensive work experience in the floral industry may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
- Specialised domestic negotiation experience with local suppliers, underpinned by bilingual language skills and cultural insights, is highly valued.

Reporting Line: The Retail Buyer will report directly to the General Manager / Director of Operations.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
