As an Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in assessing and evaluating the potential risks associated with providing liability cover across varied industries and trades. You will be an integral part of our dynamic underwriting team within Brooklyn Underwriting, focusing on Mid-Market and SME commercial risks and contributing to the company's growth initiatives. This exciting opportunity will play a key role in maintaining a renewable portfolio whilst identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and the adherence to underwriting guidelines and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. This position requires a keen understanding of insurance principles, industry regulations and a thorough analysis of diverse risk factors. You will collaborate with brokers, clients, and internal teams to make informed underwriting decisions and contribute to the team culture, profitability and growth of the organisation.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

**Risk Assessment**:

- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk.
- Two key Broker submission channels, Online Portal and direct submission.
- Assess the financial stability, industry reputation, and risk history of potential insureds.

**Underwriting Guidelines**:

- Underwrite within allocated Statements of Authority, guidelines and company policies to determine coverage eligibility and appropriate premium rates.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

**Collaboration**:

- Work closely with brokers, agents, and clients to gather necessary information and clarify requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as claims, legal, and risk management to obtain additional insights and information.
- Effectively cross-market with other Brooklyn and AXA XL lines; meet with brokers and insureds as required. Cultivate key broker relationships in the region to maintain a steady stream of business within our underwriting appetite.

**Documentation**:

- Prepare underwriting notes outlining risk assessments, recommended coverage, and premium rates.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of underwriting decisions and related documentation.

**Market Analysis**:

- Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and emerging risks that may impact liability underwriting.
- Provide input on product development and pricing strategies based on market analysis.

**Customer Service**:

- Respond to inquiries from brokers, AR networks, and clients regarding underwriting decisions and coverage options.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.

**SHARE your talent**

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

- Minimum HSC education
- Proven experience in liability underwriting, 2+ years preferred
- Ability to demonstrate ownership of a portfolio for both renewal & new business KPI’s
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of insurance regulations and industry best practices.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
