The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
**About the role**
This Assessment and Referral Court (ARC) Registrar role operates within the Magistrates' Court in a complex, demanding and sensitive environment. Performing a dual function across case workload coordination and Registrar duties that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement, liaise effectively with the Judiciary, members of the broader ARC List team, senior officers of the court and government departments.
The ARC Registrar is responsible, in conjunction with the Senior Registrar and lead ARC List Magistrate, for co-ordinating registry functions of the ARC Lists in the Gippsland region. This includes managing case flow within the Lists, ensuring legislative requirements are met and building relationships with key stakeholders. This role has significant technical registry components as well as requiring regular interaction with accused persons who are experiencing a serious mental illness or a cognitive impairment.
The Registrar may be required to assist in the operations of other courts located within the region. The Registrar may also be required to manage small teams comprising of Trainee Registrars and Registrars
