**Position Information**:
Tomaree High school is a unique learning environment with a student enrolment of 1015 with 10% of students having an Aboriginal Torres Strait Island background. It shares a campus with Tomaree Public school and is the only public high school on the Tomaree Peninsula. The school promotes excellence in academic, cultural and sporting performance and also provides a wide range of academic, creative and performing arts opportunities and involvement in sport. The school has implemented a range of strategies to support the education of gifted and talented students. A strong transition program is in place with our partner primary schools. The school has eight support classes. The school also offers a Big Picture Academy class to support students learning needs.
The schools Positive Behaviour for Learning expectations are Respect, Responsibility and Success. There is an extensive support staff that includes an Aboriginal Education Officer, Community Liaison Officer, Student Support Officer and Defense Transition Mentor. Tomaree High School is an integral part of the Tomaree Learning Community and works closely with the Youyoong Local AECG.
**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Proven ability to utilise data to identify areas for targeted support and lead the implementation of programs that improve student outcomes in literacy and/or numeracy.
- Demonstrated educational expertise to support all colleagues through targeted whole school professional learning and accreditation and maintenance of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers that supports teacher growth and development.
- Ability to lead 7-12 curriculum implementation and further develop the classroom practice of staff who have a broad range of teaching skills and experiences.
- Demonstrated consultative leadership skills with high levels of communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with the executive team, staff, students and the community to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
