Working as a Contracting Officer, your key responsibilities will include the following (but not limited to):

- Build and sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external enabling productive liaison in relation to contract management
- Understand and prepare contractual documents and conduct contract management activities
- Undertake complex procurement planning, tendering and contract formation and contract management activities
- Seek, interpret and provide advice and assistance on complex procurement and contract management issues
- Manage and lead a small team, including providing clear and consistent communication, managing performance and delegating responsibility

We are looking for experienced and motivated individuals who possess strong communication skills, who will be an integral member of an integrated workforce. You will have considerable level of stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills, along with the capacity to build effective and productive teams.

Flexible part-time hours/job-share arrangements can be considered for the right applicant.

Telework from home considered however, this role cannot be performed remotely on a full-time basis, as it is office based.

A merit pool may be established from this recruitment round.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. The APS6 Contract Manager is based at Victoria Barracks Melbourne and will be a member of the Land Communications & Specialist Systems, System Program Office team that provides support to Projects & Products.

- Sound knowledge of and experience in contract management, preferably in Services contract management but not essential;

- Flexibility and adaptability in changing circumstances and evolving requirements and;
- Proactive and detail-oriented approach.
