First & Great Support Services will be one of the most recommended NDIS service providers in Melbourne’s Western Suburbs. First & Great Support Services will provide individuals with all-inclusive support & encourage to live their life to its fullest, without discrimination or prejudice.
**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**
A Support Worker’s responsibility is to assist participants in their daily life. This is done by supporting participants with their daily living tasks, accessing the community & encouraging independence, decision making & personal choice. This includes providing in-home supports, assistance with household tasks, assistance with personal care or accessing the community.
First & Great Support Services expects all employees to present & maintain a positive, professional image when interacting with Clients, Family Members, Advocates, Service Providers & the community as a whole. First & Great Support Services encourages Support Workers to attend staff meetings when required, sharing opinions/feedback surrounding services provided & be open to professional development.
This is a **_CASUAL _**position & hours can vary. Qualifications are **NOT** required, but are preferred. Supports are based in the western suburbs with majority of clients located in Werribee, Hoppers Crossing & Truganina. Additional locations include Melton, Sydenham, Spotswood & surrounding suburbs. Salary is paid in accordance with SHADS award (Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Industry). All support services must be performed in line with the Policies & Procedures of First & Great Support Services.
**KEY SELECTION CRITERIA**
- Participants receive a high level of support to promote & maintain independence
- Support is provided to participants in a caring & supportive way
- Documentation will be kept on all interactions, providing evidence that support services are provided as per the participant’s plan
- All policies & procedures are followed
- Daily documentation is completed on First & Great Support Services’ computer system
- Documentation is completed & maintained as per First & Great Support Services ’s procedures
- Communication with the Manager is maintained
- Employees will advise management of any potential risks to participants or the organisation
- Induction is undertaken on commencement
- Willing to undertake additional training (Eg. Certificate IV in Disability) if required
- Sufficient notice is provided for all rostered shifts you become unable to work
- The Employees will adhere to First & Great Support Services’ Employees Handbook/Health & Safety Handbook & the organisations Standard Operation Procedures
**RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**
- Carry out tasks as per the service delivery provided to the participants by First & Great Support Services
- Follow authority, & other reasonable duties as instructed by the employer.
- To perform direct care duties for participants who require that support service. _*May Include: Showering, bathing, Dressing/grooming, Toileting, Preparing meals, shopping._
- Assist participants to take their medication including: Epilepsy & Midazolam medication
- Willingness to undertake appropriate training where required in relation to administering of medication
- Enhance or increase the participants current physical & intellectual capabilities, while abiding by all relevant workplace Health & Safety Standards. _*Including transferring of clients in hoists, First & Great Support Services’ Employees Handbook & Standard Operation Procedures*_
- Provide other support services to individual participants as required._*May Include: Washing & Ironing Of Personal Clothes, Performing Household Duties To Ensure The House Is Clean & Tidy._
- Identifying the need for & supporting participants to attend, medical/therapist appointments.
- Transportation to medical appointment & community inclusion activities.
- Facilitate community inclusion & participation, dependent on participants needs wants & desires.
- Support participants to establish & maintain relationships & interests through access to community activities.
- Employees must demonstrate initiative at all times when carrying out tasks, supporting participants in activities & meeting personal needs.
- Carry out & promote positive routines, in a respectful manner, which is meaningful to the individual.
- Effectively manage challenging behaviour & encourage positive social behaviour.
- Promote empowerment
