ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

The Salvation Army ‘Doorways’ community support model engages people at their point of need in a holistic way that is missional, relational and professional. We provide support for those that need it most through financial and material emergency relief and casework which helps them to find long-term solutions.

The volunteer Doorways Support Coordinator supports the Corps Officer in the practical day to day provision of Doorways services at a local site. They supervise, support and set culture for a team of Doorways volunteers as they provide a friendly space where community members feel welcome, safe and accepted.

Key tasks and responsibilities
Volunteers in this role coordinate the Doorways support service within corps. They ensure emergency relief services are provided to those who need it most within our communities.

This extends to responsibility for the day to day operations and the activities of all volunteers in Doorways roles encouraging those who connect with the community to step beyond transactional into relational service provision and referrals.

This role will ensure a welcoming, friendly and safe environment for community members by setting a culture of dignity and respect for all regardless of their current circumstances and background.

They have responsibility to lead and onboard volunteers with assistance from their supervisor.

The Doorways Support Coordinator ensures best practice of information recording (SAMiS), food storage and health and safety of workers and community members. They will ensure these operations are embedded at the site, reflecting the Doorways Model of Care.

Time required

Minimum of 3 hours / week or as agreed with manager.

Qualifications and skills
Previous experience connecting with community members, managing operations and supervising others in a social setting is required.
Confidence in using computer software is advantageous.
- The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All child related roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. _Additionally, certain volunteer roles may require a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check._
