**Job Description**:
The Position
The Construction Manager will effectively lead the construction organization and collaborate with internal and external Functions to safely and successfully deliver the Sustaining Capital Project. This position will provide overall leadership to the Construction team and associated team members to ensure construction works are delivered in line with the execution strategies.
The role will develop effective working relationships with the Albemarle project team, employees, corporate, resources, third party contractors, external parties, EPCM to enable the delivery of Sustaining Capital Project in line with safety, cost and delivery commitments. The Construction Manager will act in the best interests of Albemarle and its Corporate Charter and corporate procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to Albemarle and Australian safety standards throughout project execution by all personnel and contractors involved with SCI.
- Take an active role in developing a culture of safety and respect across the project
- Develop and successfully implement the Sustaining Capital Project construction strategy
- Lead the project construction activities, providing ongoing leadership and guidance to the construction management team and construction contractors, ensuring construction best practices are followed
- Ensure team is adequately resourced to successfully achieve project milestones
- Ensure Functional support required for the successful delivery of the construction works is available as required and ensure full integration and collaboration with such support Functions into the construction team
- Facilitate regular construction meetings to review all aspects of construction and installation activities
- Accountable for the construction quality and delivery of the facility according to design requirements
- Provide input in the selection of contractors responsible for project execution
- Closely collaborate with the project management and home office organization
- Ensure project industrial relations with all contractors, third party contributors, are being adequately addressed
- Serve as the primary Albemarle interface during construction with the Sustaining Capital Project, all field contractors and personnel both on and off site
- Consult first and then serve as the final arbiter of project construction issues
- Chair meetings related to the integrated project schedule and provide recommendations as to changes or improvements required to achieve project milestones
- Be involved and work closely with the Project Managers and Contracts & Procurement team during construction contract tender processes to ensure selection of best-suited contractors
- Review and approve construction change orders in accordance with the delegation of authority
- Sign off on behalf of the project team for custody transfer from construction to commissioning and/ or operations
- Review completeness and accuracy, approve or endorse deliverables per document distribution and approval matrix
- Assist Construction SUPR with resolving any potential conflicts between the Manufacturing and Project team concerning construction activities
- Work collaboratively with both the Albemarle Project team and construction leads and other functions
- Review project and procurement schedules to ensure that field deliverables support the construction schedule
- Develop procedures for completion of construction and ensure the team adhere to this plan
- Assist with preparation of the project close out report, including lessons learned
- Regularly consult with the Project Director regarding safety, construction progress and any other construction related matters
- Promote and uphold Albemarle’s Core Values in all decision making and undertaking business activities
Work Experience / Technical Skill Requirements
- Minimum 15 years in large capital project construction
- Minimum 10 years experience in a Brownfields environment
- Expertise in Construction management, particularly at senior management level
- Proven business acumen and strategic thinking skills
- Effective leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to motivate and empower staff
- Exceptional communication, influencing and negotiation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholder groups
- Proven experience in implementation of systems and processes
- Outcome focused
Education / Qualification Requirements
- Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline
- Masters preferred
