**About the role**
**Your role**

This position represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic research team and participate in important research that has the potential to influence cancer screening promotion in general practice. The impact of the trial has the potential to increase early detection of colorectal cancer through screening and therefore reduce the incidence of late onset diagnoses.
The Research Support Officer (RSO) will play an integral role in the implementation of the trial in Queensland with the support of the team in Melbourne. It will be the RSO’s responsibility to:
- Maintain relationships and communication with general practices who are taking part in the SMARTERscreen trial.
- Administering the intervention and control criteria in general practices adhering to the SMARTERscreen protocol.
- Ensure the operations of SMARTERscreen in general practices are maintained by providing comprehensive training and support to general practices staff engaged in the delivery of the intervention, data collection and any additional aspects of the trial.
- Maintain confidential, accurate and detailed records consistent with high quality research and ethical practice and report timely updates to the leadership team.
- Actively participate in Cancer Council Queensland and the Health Systems and Behavioural Research Team’s seminars and meetings.
- Work closely and collaboratively with SMARTERscreen investigators external to CCQ to ensure quality control and good governance of the research project.
- Act in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct of Research and the Australian Code for responsible research.
- Report adverse events or protocol breaches in a timely manner consistent with the national research guidelines
- Undertake all relevant online training, inductions and relevant professional development to ensure duties can be conducted well and responsibly
- Contribute to research outputs including conference presentations, publications and any educational material that might arise from the SMARTERscreen trial.

- Initiative is required to prioritise work and solve simple problems. A degree of independence is required once tasks are mastered, however complex issues are to be referred to the supervisor.
- The Research Support Officer is expected to exercise judgement relevant to the responsibilities of the role in performing routine duties and when necessary, refer more complex research work to their supervisor.
