This position directly contributes in the provision of an effectively run waste
management facility to service the community. To work within and
contribute to a multi-skilled team that promotes council’s service image by
providing courteous, responsive and effective customer service.

**Key Internal Relationships**:Other waste resource management staff,
mechanical services & administration
**Key External Relationships**:Blue Mountains residents/customers &
commercial users of the facility
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. To work within and contribute to a multi-skilled team environment
2. Operate relevant machinery to effectively assist in the day-to-day
- operations of the Waste Management Facility. This machinery
- includes, but is not limited to:
- Sheepsfoot Roller
- Excavator
- Tracked Loader
- Wheel Loader
- Water Cart
- Hook Lift Truck
- Forklift
3. Willingness to provide cross branch operational support and
undertake relevant training as required by the organization.
4. Maintain plant and other resources as directed, including but not
limited to wash-down, cleaning, and basic maintenance checks to
ensure safe reliable operation.
5. Undertake general site maintenance as directed by the Team
Leader or Site Coordinator
6. Complete daily work records as required and report any unsafe
plant, equipment, or practices to the Team Leader/Site
Coordinator.
7. Provide onsite transportation of waste and recovered material to
nominated destinations.
8. Identify asbestos containing materials through visual inspection or
undertake asbestos testing with supplied equipment.
9. Follow safe operating procedures and report any unsafe plant &
equipment or practices.
10. Provide a high-quality customer service that is delivered in
accordance with Council’s customer service objectives.
11. Participate in the review of all work procedures as directed and
attend toolbox meetings as required.

Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but
are not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and
notifying your Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety
Representative); never performing a task that you believe is dangerous or for which
you do not have the experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and
training or where the correct equipment to carry out the task safely is not available;
always work in a safe manner and in accordance with safety instructions, where
applicable; use the work equipment supplied for the job, in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions), and any personal protective equipment, which the
Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety aware and report any actions
to your line manager which will assist the Council to meet its legal workplace health
and safety obligations.
You have the right to cease or direct cessation of unsafe work. In addition you are
required at all times to comply with Councils Asbestos Management Plan and Policy.
**Compliance & Risk**
General Operator Waste are required carry out duties in the workplace in a
safe manner, following procedures and reporting hazards and taking
actions to prevent accidents. Ensure any suspicious material is tested for
asbestos and if identified report immediately to ART and follow relevant
SOP’s & SWMS
**SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
The position is required to work primarily at Blaxland Waste Management Facility
(Attunga Road, Blaxland) or other worksites (Katoomba Resource Recovery &
Waste Management Facility, Woodlands Rd, Katoomba) as required. Additionally,
this role includes weekend work. There is the requirement to work Public Holidays
including Good Friday and Christmas Day.
