Marngoneet Correctional Centre is a medium-security facility that houses a mix of sentenced and remand men. The role of the facility is to contain prisoners safely, securely and humanely, focusing on the individual needs of the men with the aim of providing a successful transition back into the community or on their continued journey through the prison system. The facility has a strong focus on achieving positive outcomes and provides a range of engaged services. Our highly skilled workforce provides supervision and case management and are dedicated to enhancing opportunities to strengthen prisoner pathways.
About the role
In this role, you will be responsible for work completed in our Marngoneet Kitchen and Industries (Metal Polymer Concrete and Assembly) and Horticulture areas, delivering training and employment capabilities to prisoners whilst meeting commercial and service industry production goals. Therefore, the Industry Officer will require an understanding of the breadth of this portfolio and have suitably aligned or similar experience.
Industry Officers are team members responsible for industry training, work, and employment in the prison environment. The role requires, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners while working as a member of the Vocational Services Team. The Vocational Services team includes education staff, industry, and services staff, who work together to achieve program and service outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment.
Industry Officers have a major role to play in ensuring compliance with broader prison procedures as well as specific prison industry procedures, in particular Occupational Health and Safety issues in industry areas.
At Marngoneet, Industry Officers play a significant and important role in training and assessing prisoners in relevant accredited trade skill units according to the specific work environment. An important facet of an Industry Officer role, therefore, involves liaison with internal staff and external stakeholders to make informed contributions to the development and delivery of programs and processes. This role will enter data into Oracle as part of monitoring, recording, and managing daily production processes. Industry staff are also responsible for strict adherence to food safety standards in food production areas.
About you
- demonstrated maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate prisoners to achieve training program and industry production outcomes in a multidisciplinary team and rehabilitative environment
- a proven ability to work as part of a team to monitor and achieve targets in a complex trade or industrial environment, including management of financial budgets, materials and suppliers' records and accounts, while maintaining work production schedules
- a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a Correctional environment and demonstrated absence of a relevant offence history
- trade qualification or relevant experience in either food processing, horticulture or manufacturing knowledge (highly desirable)
- a current forklift license (preferable)
- knowledge of Lean manufacturing process.
