This exciting opportunity is within the Strategic Communications & Advocacy team supporting the development of strategic communications campaigns and projects to raise awareness of Council’s services, programs, projects, initiatives, and events.

**What you’ll be doing**:

- Contribute to the development and delivery of communications plans to raise awareness and inform our community about Council’s services, programs, projects, initiatives, and events.
- Provide strategic communications for key decisions of the Council.
- Support the development, execution, and evaluation of strategic communications campaigns.
- Develop high-level narratives, ensuring strong and consistent key messaging across all strategic communications activities.
- Provide specialist writing and editing for a range of communications materials and channels that are tailored for various external and internal audiences and stakeholders.
- Support brand reputation and tone of voice to maintain and improve engagement across all areas of the business and supports Hume City Council’s strategic objectives.
- Monitor issues of importance and implement strategic communications activities as necessary to ensure Council’s position is advocated clearly and easily understood.
- Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team to support the strategic planning process and delivery of strategic communications campaigns and activities.

**The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role**:

- Ability to plan, research, develop, implement, and evaluate communications strategies.
- Specialist written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to write in a clear, concise, and understandable manner as appropriate for multiple formats.
- Ability to gain cooperation and assistance from people with diverse backgrounds and cultures, both within and external to the organisation, to achieve the objectives of this position.
- Experience in the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of integrated communications strategies.
- A strong understanding of local, state, and federal government and experience working in a political environment.
- Ability to provide specialist advice to people unfamiliar with communication principles.
- Ability to lead teams and work collaboratively as part of a team to resolve problems and handle complaints effectively.

**Required Certifications & Qualifications**:

- Tertiary qualifications and/or substantial demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, marketing, emergency management communications or a similar field.
- A current driver’s licence.
