About The Role
Due to business growth, we have a requirement for a Superintendent Rehabilitation and Closure to join our HSE team.Reporting to the General Manager Environment, the Superintendent Rehabilitation and Closure is responsible for providing expert advice, support and governance for the development, maintenance and implementation of rehabilitation and closure plans for our operations.

As the Rehabilitation and Closure Superintendent, you will be accountable for setting and implementing the Whitehaven Coal Rehabilitation and Closure Standards as well as establishing Governance Programs to ensure all rehabilitation activities adhere to regulatory requirements and Whitehaven Coal Standards, while also promoting environmentally responsible practices.

The Superintendent Rehabilitation and Closure will directly support improved rehabilitation and closure performance through engagement in the mine planning cycle.

What You’ll Do
- Process owner for developing and implementing minimum company Standards for Rehabilitation and Closure.
- Input into the HSE 5-year plan ensuring there is clear integration with Whitehaven Coal Rehabilitation and Closure Strategy, the Whitehaven Coal HSE Strategy and the mine planning process.
- Identifies and monitors companywide Rehabilitation and Closure practices and emerging trends (internal and external) and analyses these in relation to performance.
- Gives technical advice to the Site Leadership Teams and Operations on strategic rehabilitation and closure issues that may impact WHC.
- Provides technical expertise for Rehabilitation and Closure issues and shares this expertise with Operations, including upskilling of capability.
- Engages regulatory bodies, industry bodies and non-government organisations on Rehabilitation and Closure issues that span multiple Operations.
- Support the development of site-specific Rehabilitation and Closure Plans in coordination with internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, earth sciences, mining engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in land rehabilitation and closure planning, preferably in the mining industry.
- Strong knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and industry standards for NSW and QLD
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills and great attention to detail.

We are flexible on location for this role, you can be based in any of our offices in NSW or QLD, with regular travel to our NSW and QLD sites as required.
