**About the Role**:
The Principal Government Relations plays a key role in representing BHP in senior-level engagement with West Australian political and public policy stakeholders. In this role, you will provide strategic insight and advice regarding West Australian Government related and externally driven issues. You will protect and improve BHP’s reputation through pro-active and relationship-based engagement with relevant WA Government stakeholders to ensure the Company’s economic, strategic and social value is understood and appreciated by key Government stakeholders.

This role will be offered as a 12 month fixed term contract and will be based in the BHP Perth office, flexible work options available which can be discussed at interview.
- Develop and execute proactive, forward looking political and regulatory engagement strategies to protect and grow BHP’s relationship with key stakeholders;
- Provide high quality advice and sound policy recommendations to leadership and lead the development of advocacy and policy responses to enable positive public policy outcomes;
- Develop a strong internal network within BHP to maintain a robust understanding of BHP’s business and areas that intersect with the regulatory and political landscape;
- Maintain oversight of developments in the regulatory and political landscape and succinctly translate the impacts and opportunities of changes to management.
- Actively participate in industry associations, and co-ordinate company-wide input to industry lead campaigns and legislative change;
- Develop positive relationships with Government supporting the Asset President
- Work closely with peers to ensure a seamless, integrated execution of Corporate Affairs, Indigenous Engagement & Communications deliverables across all stakeholder groups.
- Provide expert advice on key government initiatives, supporting the WA Assets with all government interfaces and requirements.

**About You**:

- Extensive experience developing working relationships with senior government, parliamentary and industry stakeholders on complex matters, with an established professional network in these areas.
- Proven ability to work with senior internal and external stakeholders in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined and high pressure environment
- Extensive experience in the development and analysis of policy and its implications across community and industry
- Experience working within government, particularly with regulatory and legislative frameworks and approval processes, and extensive understanding of how government operates and interacts with industry
- Work closely with peers to ensure a seamless, integrated execution of External Affairs deliverables across all stakeholder groups.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of people
