We are looking to add to the small team currently supporting a disabled person to live in his own rental property in Bundoora. The right attitude is more important to us than experience or qualifications. You will get one-on-one training in how to support this person from the team and other professionals - for example - the person's speech pathologist.

External locations as required to support Person’s NDIS goals/needs

**Position Summary **The role of Person’s Disability Support Worker is to empower him to live a safe, healthy and happy life. This role is responsible for delivering quality support in a way that protects and respects Person’s human rights, his interests and individual goals.

- Availability and willingness to work across a roster incorporating day, evening, weekend and overnight shifts

**Key Selection Criteria - DESIRABLE**_**:_
- Experience with or understanding of Autism
- Current Victorian Driver's License
- Current Level 2 First Aid (HLTAID003)

**Key responsibilities of a Disability Support Worker include;**
- Assist Person to meet his goals as stated in his NDIS participant statement/plan
- Assist Person to be a good tenant
- Provide all required support to enable Person to have an ordinary life
- Follow Person’s documented (video and/or online or paper documents) support needs including any communication plan, behaviour support plan, support plan and other information and/or instructions provided by supervisor, Person’s family members or specialist/health/allied health professionals

**Tasks to be performed include**:

- **(but are not limited to)**_
- Personal care (shower, continence aid changes, personal grooming, brushing teeth, clipping hair etc.)
- Meal preparation
- Assist with meals
- Domestic duties (cleaning, dishes, laundry) as required
- Support in relation to community inclusion, volunteering and recreational activities
- Grocery shopping
- Maintaining detailed notes and a log of duties undertaken per shift
- Assist with visits to routine medical appointments

**Communication**:

- Use meaningful and relevant communication strategies with Person - including learning/using Person's signs and gestures as quickly as possible
- Provide support in a manner that respects and enhances Person and his family's right to privacy
- Keep all personal records and documentation up to date
- Participate in maintaining Person’s day notes (excel spreadsheet) and provide a meaningful written handover at the end of each shift to the next worker.

**Occupational Health, Safety (OH&S) and Risk**:

- Adhere to all manual handling procedures and other workplace policies to ensure your own and Person’s safety
- Report any hazards that impact on the safety of yourself or Person in your role as a Disability Support Worker
- Follow the COVID-19 workplace plan - including wearing a mask during your shift (Person being supported is immunocompromised)

**Team Work**:

- Attend and actively participate in all team meetings, online team groups and roster/attendance apps
- Follow team decisions and routine instructions with regard to work practices
- Use initiative and take responsibility to ensure Person’s support is consistent and effective

**Liaison with key stakeholders**:

- Establish and maintain positive and respectful relationships and work together with other staff, service providers, health professionals and Person's family members and friends.

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 10-15 per week

**Salary**: $23.99 - $43.22 per hour

Schedule:

- Afternoon shift
- Evening shift
- Night shift
