We are seeking an experienced Technical Officer to support the civil infrastructure projects within a local Government Department located in Ipswich. Provide technical support in relation to civil infrastructures including traffic signal, flashing school zone sign, speed awareness sign, advisory signage and heavy vehicle access to ensure a safe, effective and efficient operation of the city’s road network. The successful applicant will commence asap, and the role is initially for 3 months with the possibility of an extension.

**In this role you will be responsible for**:

- Develop and update operational procedures to reflect change to legislation and best practice traffic management and road safety.
- Coordinate and monitor Traffic Signals, Flashing School Zone Signs Program, Speed Awareness Signs and associated activities.
- Implementation of maintenance contracts for traffic signals, flashing school zone signs and speed awareness signs.
- Investigate and resolve enquiries related to maintenance of road network, pavements and associated infrastructure and road safety matters.
- Assess, review and determine heavy vehicle access and road corridor management matters.
- Assess review and determine land access and activity notices from telecommunication providers.
- Assess, review and determine design alignments for public utilities and associated activities within road reserves.
- Provide advice and recommendations to the staff in relations to road operations and maintenance related activities.

**Applicants will need to have the following**:

- Tertiary qualifications in civil engineering. Formal qualifications may not be required where the applicant can demonstrate relevant experience in the functions of the position.
- Current Queensland “C” class driver’s licence
- Sound experience in civil infrastructure maintenance, preferably within a local government environment
- Desirable - Bachelor’s degree in civil or traffic engineering.

**Additional Requirements**
- Substantial knowledge of legislation, standards and guidelines associated with road pavement and drainage, traffic engineering and heavy vehicle access.
- Proven project management skills, and experience in coordinating and supervising consultants and contractors.
- Substantial consultation, networking, partnering, negotiation and communication skills and the ability to resolve complex enquiries and requests.
- Proven ability to achieve practical outcomes and complete complex technical projects on time and budget.
