**Who we are**
The Biodiversity Division is part of the Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. The division’s goal is to identify, protect, and conserve Australia’s biodiversity. Responsibilities of the Division include:

- assessment, listing and conservation planning for threatened species, threatened ecological communities and key threatening processes under the EPBC Act
- supporting the independent Threatened Species Scientific Committee
- supporting the Threatened Species Commissioner to raise awareness and implement the Threatened Species Action Plan 2022-2032
- delivering programs which recover biodiversity affected by the 2019/2020 bushfires, improve the health of Australia’s urban waterways, save native species, and improve Koala health outcomes.

The Protected Species & Ecological Communities Branch is responsible for the:

- assessment and listing of terrestrial and freshwater threatened species and ecological communities under the EPBC Act
- preparation of conservation planning documents for terrestrial and freshwater threatened species and ecological communities under the EPBC Act
- providing support for the Threatened Species Scientific Committee
- leading threatened species and ecological community listing and conservation planning reforms under the Nature Positive Plan.

The Threatened Species and Communities Governance Section is responsible for guiding the strategic direction of the branch, uplifting governance and planning frameworks, designing solutions to branch wide strategic and governance issues, facilitating collaboration within the branch and with key stakeholders and supporting the Commonwealth Threatened Species Scientific Committee.

**The Job**
As an EL1 Assistant Director Threatened Species and Ecological Communities Governance, your duties will include:

- supporting / leading the development and implementation of strategic and business planning, programs, projects and governance processes
- devising assurance and evaluation to support these functions in line with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act and Rule and relevant Commonwealth frameworks
- developing solutions for streamlining effective planning, reporting and communication, including utilising data analytics and visualisation
- working with other sections to capture strategic planning and reporting information in line with contemporary best practices
- analysing information to assist the branch governance board in setting strategic priorities across policies, programs and regulation against the department’s legislative and government priorities
- assisting the Director supporting the branch governance board
- managing staff, where required.

**Eligibility**
**Citizenship** - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance** - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

**Pre-employment Check**:

- Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
