**WHS Officer / RTW / Rehab Officer**

This position supports the delivery of contemporary work health and safety (WHS) practices across the Council, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and other requirements within the local government context. The position incumbent works in partnership with operational Portfolios to facilitate a supportive and safe environment for employees, contractors, visitors and other stakeholders.

**Key responsibilities include the following**:

- Maintain a current understanding of relevant WHS legislation and regulations and, under the guidance of the Principal Specialist Work Health and Safety, provide advice to Managers and employees to assist them in meeting their respective WHS responsibilities.
- Provide support to the Principal Specialist Work Health and Safety and Senior Work Health and Safety Officer to ensure that all WHS-related policies and procedures are updated in line with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve WHS processes to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the WHS team in meeting internal customer needs and WHS compliance requirements.
- Support the delivery of a Council-wide training program, including continuous improvement of course content, maintenance of online course content, coordination of course feedback, record keeping and preparation of reporting.
- Provide advice and support to managers, supervisors, employees and contractors in WHS risk management to ensure the consistent and effective mitigation of WHS operational risk across Council.
- Coordinate rehabilitation and return to work case management for workers' compensation and non-work related injuries and illnesses, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and the requirements of Council's WHS insurer.
- Provide support to the Principal Specialist Work Health and Safety and Senior Work Health and Safety Officer as required, including with incident investigation, procurement and data entry.
- Support WHS compliance through a range of mechanisms, including maintenance of the Chem FFX database and implementation of the WHS audit and hazard inspection programs
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a Council-wide wellbeing program that meets the needs of employees.
- Undertake secretariat duties for corporate and operational WHS committees, as required.
- Comply with Council policies, procedures and instructions to deliver quality and safe services.
- Maintain accountability and appropriate use of information systems and maintain vigilance to comply with record-keeping requirements.
- In accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, take reasonable care for your own health, safety and well-being and take reasonable care to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of others.

**About you**:

- You have worked in a similar RTW/ Rehab role in the past
- You have previous government Experience
- Sound working knowledge in leading investigations, audits, risk assessments, policy development, systems management and delivering strategic H&S objectives and targets.
- Knowledge of National Self Insurer WHS Audit Tool. (highly desirable)
- Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety and/or related fields well regarded.
- Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator (RRTWC) accreditation well regarded.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and communication skills, coupled with the ability to build effective and
- productive internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to produce reports, develop or update policies and prepare other relevant documentation.
- Current Class C (Standard) Driver Licence.
