**Who we are**
The Emissions Reduction Division develops and implements Australia’s domestic climate mitigation policies and programs, including medium
- and long
- term emissions reduction policies and targets. It is also responsible for reducing emissions in the transport sector, voluntary action, and emissions reporting and projections. Our strategies and advice are complemented by the division’s oversight and policy advice for the Clean Energy Regulator and Climate Change Authority.

You will be working in the National Inventory Systems and International Reporting Branch. This Branch delivers the National Greenhouse Accounts and emissions projections, which provide information on Australia’s historical, current and projected greenhouse gas emissions, fulfilling international reporting obligations. This data informs the design and tracks the effectiveness of domestic climate action and progress towards emissions reduction targets. The data produced in the Branch provides key inputs into policy design and analysis and we work closely with colleagues across the Division and in other government agencies to support the design of climate change policies.

The Modelling and Geospatial Section is a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment that provide high quality geospatial support for projects within the National Inventory Systems and International Reporting (NISIR) Branch. It also maintains the Full Carbon Accounting Model which is critical to estimate Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions and sequestration from the Land use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector.

**The Job**
We are looking for a dynamic highly motivated geospatial analyst who will, as part of a small multi-disciplinary team:

- assist with the acquisition, analysis and curation of location data
- develop mapping products
- interpretation and processing of remotely sensed imagery
- utilisation of data cubes for extraction of thematic information
- broadly support the work of the branch to enable the department to make evidence-based decisions and support the Department’s domestic and international reporting responsibilities.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
The following will be highly regarded:

- Degree or Diploma in Spatial Sciences, Remote Sensing, GIS, Geography or related field, and/or an equivalent level of skills, knowledge and experience in a professional spatial role
- Demonstrated experience utilising the ESRI suite of products, including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro and their extensions (e.g. Spatial Analyst) to create, convert, maintain, manage and analyse vector and tabular data
- Experience with the automation of spatial data production workflows(ESRI suite, FME, Python etc). Use of Python in combination with ESRI products highly desirable
- Knowledge of remote sensing and imagery analysis.

**Desirable qualifications**
Experience in the interpretation and/or classification of remote sensed products (eg Landsat, sentinel, spot, aerial photography) to detect changein the Australian Landscape.

Experience/knowledge working with environmental spatial data such as firemapping or climate data.

- To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance**
- This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
