**Position Information**:
Canley Vale Public School is a large, dynamic and complex school located in the heart of South Western Sydney catering to the needs of 870 students P-6 and their families. We currently have 32 mainstream classes K-6 and 4 Preschool classes. The school serves a culturally diverse community with over 98% of students identified as EAL/D; Chinese, Vietnamese and Khmer are the most highly represented cultures, however, recent newly arrived students and their families are of Arabic, African and Pacific Island background. Some of these families are identified as being refugees.

The school provides a wide range of academic and extra-curricular programs aimed at developing the 'whole child'. These programs include Schools as a Community Centre, Preschool, Community and Multicultural events, choir, dance, debating, public speaking and various sporting activities. Students are provided with leadership opportunities and development.

The school is a hub of the local community and often serves as a meeting place for parents. It also provides a venue for weekend Community Language schools and an OSHC (Out of School Hours Care) facility. Community Liaison Officers assist the school to maintain positive and open channels of communication between staff, students, parents and community members. The Schools as a Community Centre (SaCC) program runs four days a week with both community and supported playgroups as well as parenting program groups meeting regularly.

Professional learning for all staff is a major focus and much of this is accomplished via the delivery of regular team-based sessions, whereby grade teams work with our Instructional Leaders and Deputy Principals. Other links with partner primary and high schools are forged and maintained via initiatives such as the Community of Schools Performing Arts Program, Digital Olympics and weekly PSSA sport.

Canley Vale Public School is supported by a small but dedicated P&C Association to provide a further avenue via which parents and school community members are able to actively participate in, and contribute to, the education of students.

**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary, with the proven capacity to balance exemplary classroom teaching practices with the complex responsibilities of a school leadership role.

Demonstrated excellence in improving outcomes for students, through leading evidence-based, innovative and differentiated literacy and numeracy programs.

A highly visible and collaborative leader, who promotes respectful relationships with a culturally diverse school community and with the ability to initiate and lead whole school programs that enhance student wellbeing.

Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and inspire teams of both experienced and early career teachers while building and nurturing a positive school culture and sense of belonging for all.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5.
