**Term**: Full time, Fixed term (up to 30 November 2025)
**The Position**
This is a key role in supporting a major project within the Research School of Physics, reporting to Associate Professor Matthew Sellars. The role will undertake experiments on rare earth quantum memory systems and is integral to the delivery and support of key project milestones. The role will assist in the conducting of research studies and data analysis, as well as supporting literature reviews, archival works, and maintaining relevant data bases.
**The Person**
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher with a background in quantum photonic design and experimental implementation. Experience in both experimental coherent rare-earth ion spectroscopy techniques and in the design of photonic systems that integrate rare-earth doped crystal and fibre optical components is essential. An in-depth knowledge of crystal field modelling of rare-earth ions along with experience operating liquid helium cryogenic systems with superconducting magnets is highly desirable. Highly developed organisational skills and effective self-management are key. We are looking for someone who likes challenging problems and is a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to quickly develop productive, professional relationships and contribute to a leading research project.
