The School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) is a world-class academic centre renowned for its pioneering research and education on regulation and governance. For the past 20 years, RegNet has carried out transformative research that develops innovative ways of responding to the complex and interconnected challenges of the 21st century. Our work is distinctly interdisciplinary and focuses on improving the governance of major social, economic, environmental and health issues.

The Research Officer will report to ANU Research Fellow, Dr Virginia Marshall, and work with a multidisciplinary team including an ANU-based Research Officer and PhD scholar and the ARC research team that includes Prof Emma Kowal and her Postdoctoral Fellow (Medical Anthropology) based at Deakin University, Prof Ron Quinn and his PhD scholars (compositional analysis) based at Griffith University, two Kimberley-based senior Nyikina Elders engaged on the project as (male and female) Indigenous Research Collaborators, members of the Indigenous Advisory Panel, as well as the consultants (Regulatory Systems and Videography) engaged on the project.

**About the role**

The Research Officer will provide support to the Lead Chief Investigator and other members of the ARC research team, for the ARC-funded project ‘Investigating barriers and paths to commercial development of Indigenous traditional medicines’, including assisting with day-to-day operational elements of the project, supporting project communications, arranging meetings, travel bookings, coordinating the National symposium on Indigenous Medicines in Year 2 and initiating organisational arrangements for an International Indigenous Medicines Conference scheduled for Project Year 3. The Research Officer is engaged on a flexible 1 day per week (0.2 FTE) basis.

The Research Officer will work as part of the research team, liaising with a wide range of stakeholders and providing general support related to research activities. They will have a key role in supporting the remote Indigenous Research Collaborators, the Indigenous Advisory Panel, and liaising with the Aboriginal partner organisations.

**Role Statement**:
Under general direction, the Research Officer will:

- Provide support to the research team, including but not limited to:

- Assisting in the conduct of qualitative research studies and may involve, at times, fieldwork and related activities.
- Creating, maintaining and managing relevant databases.
- Assisting with the maintenance and updates to the project website.
- Assisting in the ethics requirements for the research team as required.
- Disseminate relevant reports to internal and external stakeholders, including external funding agencies.
- Support the timely and on budget delivery of the project and monitor various sources to identify relevant funding opportunities.
- Provide general support on a range of research related matters, including coordinating team meetings, assist with coordinating communications with the Indigenous Research Collaborators, and the various stakeholders and organising relevant travel and events.
- Participate in workshops and professional networks across campus to develop a broad base of industry knowledge and provide input to improve the area’s research practices and processes.
- Comply with all ANU policies and procedures, in particular those relating to work health and safety and equal opportunity.
- Perform other duties as requested, consistent with the classification level of the position and in line with the principle of multi-skilling.

SELECTION CRITERIA
- Degree or demonstrated relevant experience in a research or research support role in a related discipline and an interest in a field closely related to allocated research activities.
- Sound knowledge of qualitative research methodologies. Experience in survey design, implementation, data collection and analysis may be regarded positively.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to draft standard business correspondence and various research related papers, and an ability to consult and liaise effectively with a wide range of people in a culturally diverse environment.
- Experience working with remote Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal representative organisations will be highly regarded.
- Proven organisational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise own workload and to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, meeting competing deadlines and delivering high-quality outcomes.
