Seasoned policy expert or lawyer passionate about championing consumer rights? Join Australia’s largest consumer advocacy organisation to help shape public policy decisions through policy research and analysis.
- Challenge your skills & knowledge in a highly reputable not-for-profit
- Join a team of campaigners and communicators advocating for big changes that benefit consumers
- Unique part-time role offering genuine flexibility and work-life balance
You will be joining an organisation with a long track record of making a difference. CHOICE has been Australia’s consumer advocate since 1959, giving clear-cut advice about products, services and your rights. We work everyday to help people navigate complex markets, step in to stop businesses treating people unfairly and fight for governments to create laws that protect and advance the interests of consumers.
**About the opportunity**
We want you to lead research and analysis on a diverse range of policy work that covers financial services, consumer protection and competition.
You’ll work closely with CHOICE’s CEO, Directors and the Campaigns team to define policy priorities and sharpen our approach to influencing policy decisions that affect consumers.
- Lead policy research and analysis to shape CHOICE’s contribution to major debates, especially around financial services, consumer protection and competition law.
- Contributing to the Campaigns and Communications leadership team, including potential people management opportunities.
- Provide advice to the organisation on policy issues across content, campaigns, social posts and other business decisions.
- Promote CHOICE’s policy positions, including acting as a media spokesperson.
- Meet with consumer groups, regulators, academics, the not-for-profit sector and other sectors to ensure CHOICE understands the perspectives of all consumers.
**About you**
You want to make Australia a better place for people. You understand that law and policy decisions have a deep impact on people’s lives and you want to make sure that decision makers get things right.
- Formal qualifications in public policy, law, social sciences or a related discipline.
- A track record of developing and articulating policy positions
- A thorough understanding of political processes in Australia
- Experience acting as a spokesperson in the media or capacity to develop this skill.
- An interest in mentoring and developing early career professionals
You are a natural collaborator with the research skills to rapidly gain a robust understanding of unfamiliar policy areas, analyse the issues and articulate changes that would better serve the community.
**About CHOICE**
We value diversity in our teams and work hard to ensure our people feel they belong at CHOICE. We embrace flexible working aligned to individual needs, and support our teams to work collaboratively wherever they are located.
Please send us your resume and a cover letter no longer than one page. We would also welcome a copy of or a link to a piece of policy writing that you completed or significantly contributed to recently.
